Video: Bike Ride Down Broadway
Aug 23rd, 2009Bicycle ride down Broadway in New York City from Columbus Circle at 59th Street to Herald Square at 33rd Street. Video playback is twice the normal speed, so it will seem much faster than normal.

(double posted with youtube) i wish that times square section was as easy as this at rush hour. i lose about 15 minutes on my commute compared to the old 7th ave – bway route.
Fortunately, it wasn’t too crowded when this was filmed, but am sure it is pretty hectic during the afternoon rush hour with all the tourists and commuters out.

Here’s a solution that might work for you : when you hit west 49th street, make a left. head down 7th avenue, merge left and make a left onto 42nd street and then get right back on the broadway bike lane. then you won’t have to break ‘the rules’ (which require cyclists to walk their bikes in the times square pedestrian zones) as demonstrated in this video.
my commute only takes a 5 minute hit.
