Will colored bike lanes make the streets safer for cyclists?

The DOT has painted the bike lane on Henry Street in Brooklyn green to try to find out.

  1. these painted bike lanes are certainly an improvement. not as good as a separated path, but a lot more visible than a non-painted lane.

  2. wonder how “green” (enviromentally friendly) the paint is?

  3. certainly not a perfect solution, but at least they are trying to make bike lanes safer and more effective. My limited experience with the painted lines has been positive.
