Will green bike lanes make the streets safer?

The DOT has painted the bike lane on Henry Street in Brooklyn green to try to find out.

these painted bike lanes are certainly an improvement. not as good as a separated path, but a lot more visible than a non-painted lane.
wonder how “green” (enviromentally friendly) the paint is?
certainly not a perfect solution, but at least they are trying to make bike lanes safer and more effective. My limited experience with the painted lines has been positive.
Is there any information on costs for painting the bike lane? Was thermoplastic considered?
we’ve got them here in Australia everywhere- I think they’re excellent
