Bikes are allowed in the subway system at all times, however it is recommended that you avoid rush hour.  NYC Subway Bike Rules
Metro North & Long Islnd Railroad Bike Policy
A $5 bike permit is required to bring a bicycle onto trains. Permit holders shall be governed by the Metro North & Long Island Railroad Bike Policy.
NJ Transit Bike Policy
With the “Bike Aboard” program, there is no extra charge for bicycles brought aboard NJ TRANSIT vehicles, and no “permit” is required.   NJ Transit Bike Policy
PATH Bike Policy
No bicycles on weekdays between 6:30 am and 9:30 am and between 3:30 pm and 6:30 pm. No more than two bicycles are permitted on a PATH car. PATH Bike Policy
Amtrak Bike Policy
Amtrak provides several options for transporting your bicycle. Options include:
* Bicycles stored onboard in bike racks.
* Bicycles checked as baggage in a box or other secure container.
* Bicycles checked as baggage secured by tie-down equipment, not in a box.
* Folding bicycles brought onboard as carry-on baggage.
