May is Bike Month in NYC and there are plenty of bicycling events going on in and around New York City. BikeMonthNYC.org has the most comprehensive coverage, including an Event Calendar.

Would you like to be able to use Google maps to get directions by bike?

If so, please let Google know by signing the petition at GoogleMapsBikeThere.org.

GoogleMapsBikeThere.org was created to ask Google to help us make the world safer for bicyclists by adding bicycle routes to Google Maps. Please sign the petition if you have not done so yet. The ‘Bike There’ is because that is the option we want to see added to Google Maps, along with ‘Drive There’ and ‘Take Public Transit’.

NYC Bike Maps .com does not have the resources to undertake this project, but fully supports the idea and have signed the petition to show our support. As a side note, we sent Google a request to add bike paths, bike lanes, and bike routes several months before creating NYC Bike Maps .com.

Transportation Alternatives’ Crash Stat Map

Transportation Alternatives has launched a new and improved version of their Crash Stat Map that now uses Google maps and includes data from 2004 and 2005. The location of accidents and fatalities involving bicycles are mapped city wide making this a useful tool for finding streets and intersections to avoid and/or be extra cautious when using.

The New York City Bicycle Safety Coalition, an assortment of New York City government agencies and non-profits (including Transportation Alternatives and the 5BBC), launched a new bike safety advertising campaign.
