Bicycle ride down Broadway in New York City from Columbus Circle at 59th Street to Herald Square at 33rd Street. Video playback is twice the normal speed, so it will seem much faster than normal.

Here is a video from a recent bicycle ride on the Prince Street bike lane in Manhattan, which was one of the first painted bike lanes in NYC.

Grand Street Protected Bicycle Path

Streets Blog has confirmed that the existing Grand Street bike lane between Varick and Chrystie is being replaced with a protected bicycle path. The bike path will be located on the far right of the street separated from traffic by a 3 foot curb and is the first cross town bike route separated from traffic. More info in the DOT proposal (PDF).

Bikers in New York City now have some new bike lanes to enjoy while riding around town. Manhattan appears to have been the recipient of the most new bike lanes, with Brooklyn and the Bronx also getting a few.

The DOT has painted the bike lane on Henry Street in Brooklyn green to try to find out.

New Bike Lanes & Bike Routes for Manhattan

New York City has stated that they plan to add 70 miles of new bike lanes & bike routes to the city’s bicycle network in 2007. So far new bike lanes have recently been striped on Manhattan’s W 91st St, W 90th St, W 77th St, W 78th S, Madison St & Grand St. The new bike lanes on the Upperwest Side provide a connection between the West Side Greenway & Central Park.
