The annual bike tours are a way for society to have a just one day tolerant for bicyclists and everyone should sacrifice and accomidate cyclists us as we tolerate the cars, trucks and others who in my opinion treat bicyclists as 2nd class citizens with no equal rights to the roads, see http://www.ghostbikes.org/new-york-city Every year, cyclists are killed on our streets needlessly because a delivery truck decided to park in a bike lane and create a dangerous situation or a cab had to run a light to get to his destination 5 minutes faster. I am sure that I speak for many cyclists that just want equal access to our beautiful city and equal consideration as citizens. While I mean no disrepect to the elderly whatsoever, give us our 1 day to enjoy what we do. When I am on a bus and a person is on a wheelchair, I gladly am in no hurry whatsoever to accomidate all persons in society and proudly stand behind everyone and believe that the handicapped should have equal access. I ask that you be tolerant in return and make the same sacrifice that others provide to you. Ruth,

For future reference the 5 Boro Bike Tour is the first Sunday of May every year. Signs were posted days in advance warning of the road closures. Ruth – Sorry to hear you were inconvenienced. At the least, you seriously inconvenienced thousands of people who were unable to get from one side of city to the other for miles, with no posted information or access. For those like myself, with disability, you caused expense, time, financial loss, and aggravation. Information on impact of this ride on NY'ers should be posted all over (that one must be strong enough to walk miles to find a street where one can cross town, and psychic enough to know which streets will be open). If those who read this think it is funny: perhaps one day you too will be older or in poor health or have a disability or lack of adequate funds. People couldn't get to jobs; people couldn't get to events they had paid for. An event of this nature should not be allowed if it is not going to be conducted in a manner that will anticipate and respect all the people upon whom it will have such a deletrious impact. Hope you all enjoyed yourself.
